Pieces

“Pieces” is a series I created between 2021 and 2023. It was a time when my relationship with my own body and food felt very fragile. I found myself turning to painting as a way to process what I couldn’t yet put into words. Instead of focusing inward, I chose to paint the women around me: their gestures, movements, and their bodies. It felt easier to look at them than at myself. However, slowly, this act became a way of reconnecting with my own body and experience.

The series became a reflection of that journey. I went from observing others to seeing myself in them. One of the last pieces was completed during the Young Master Residency in Germany, a time that allowed me to fully dedicate myself to art. There, I felt something shift. I felt ready to move forward, to embrace the ordinary moments around me with a new sense of appreciation. “Pieces” marks both an ending and a beginning. It ia a record of growth, healing, and the power of learning to see beauty again.

During that residency, I also explored printmaking and with etching, I created an artwork which put together all the “pieces” of a woman into a full woman.
